Graftix cause and effect matrix for Kestral House fire alarm and life safety: causes down the side, effects across the top, banded by system, with each filled cell showing its timed steps

Design the matrix

Built from what the job already holds

Causes and effects point at the zones, devices and systems already on the project, or at something by others. Each cell holds timed steps, and every one reads back as a plain sentence.

A cause and effect cell opened in Graftix: the plain sentence for a zone and its sounders, the programmed and tested result, and step 1 with its delay and latching
Graftix cause and effect checks for Kestral House: three fail-safe interfaces not yet proved, and one accepted exception with the reason that prints on every issued revision

Check it and issue it

Find the stair door nothing releases

The checks find the gaps before anyone else does, such as a stair door that no fire condition releases. Issue each revision with its changes clouded, as an A3 PDF or a spreadsheet.

On the drawing

Ask a device what it sets off

Pick a call point on the drawing and ask. Rings, tags and arrows show every door, damper and sounder it sets off, on the real plan.

What a manual call point sets off, shown on the Kestral House ground floor drawing in Graftix: causes ringed with C tags, effects ringed with E tags, and arrows between them
Witness testing in Graftix Go: the clock running since activation, and each sounder marked seen with its time against the designed delay

Witness testing

A running clock against every designed delay

Every step is timed against its designed delay, so a late door reads “Passed, late”, and a failure raises a snag. In the latest Graftix Go it all works with no signal, with photo and video evidence.

Sign-off

Everyone signs the same version

Each sign-off sheet carries a fingerprint, so everyone can check they are signing the same version, in person or by an emailed link. The sheet seals once everyone has signed or declined.

Readiness and handover

Hand over what was proved

System readiness shows what is still to prove. The handover pack and the O&M section carry the as-commissioned revision, every test round and every sealed sheet.

For consultants

Review without an account

Send the issued matrix by review link. The fire engineer comments on any cell, and sees which revision closed each comment.

For partners

Only their own part

Give a partner, such as the access control subcontractor, limited access. They see the rows, columns and test results that touch their systems, and nothing else.
